What type of paint do you use?

We embarked on a journey of discovery, delving into the world of chalk-style paint. After a series of experiments and a multitude of samples, we struck gold with a formula that’s just perfect for hand-painting furniture. And here’s a fun fact – we don’t use spray guns. Every stroke of paint you see on our furniture is lovingly applied by hand. It’s our little way of ensuring that every piece we create is truly unique.

Why does your paint have a thick viscosity?

So, here’s the deal with our chalk-style paint. It’s a bit thicker than your usual paint, and that’s no accident. It’s packed with high pigment concentration and this cool stuff called calcium carbonate, which gives it that chalky feel. It’s also got less water and a denser binder, which adds to its thickness. But that’s all part of the plan! Chalk-style paint is all about texture and distressing. It covers like a dream, sticks to just about anything, and sands down easily for that vintage look we all love. Sure, it might take a bit more muscle to get a smooth finish because of its thickness, but we promise it’s worth it. It’s these unique quirks that make chalk-style paint a favorite for all kinds of decorative and restoration projects.

Do I need to prime the surface before applying your paint?

One of the advantages of chalk paint is that it typically does not require a primer before application. Chalk paint adheres well to a variety of surfaces, including wood, metal, and plastic, even if they are varnished or glossed.

However, there are a few cases where you might want to consider using a primer:

  1. Stain Bleeding: If the piece of furniture is made from a type of wood that is known to bleed tannins (like mahogany or cherry), or if it has a dark stain that could bleed through, a stain-blocking primer can be beneficial.

  2. Smooth, Glossy Surfaces: While chalk paint can stick to glossy surfaces, a light sanding or a primer can help ensure better adhesion.

  3. Major Color Changes: If you’re painting a dark piece of furniture a light color, a primer can help block the original color and reduce the number of coats of chalk paint needed.

Remember, even if you don’t need to prime, it’s still important to clean the piece thoroughly before painting.

Why you don’t offer shipping nationwide on all your products?

While we’d love to ship all our pieces nationwide, we’re mindful of your wallet. Some items, while fantastic, might not justify the shipping costs when you could find similar quality locally. But hey, if you’ve got your heart set on a specific piece and want it shipped, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re more than happy to provide a quote. After all, we’re here to help you find the perfect piece, no matter where you are.

What are your operating hours?

We’re here and ready to help from 10am to 5pm on weekdays. And for weekends and holidays? We’ve got you covered too, but by appointment only. If you need to reach out, feel free to give us a ring or shoot us a text at 602-380-2506. We’re always happy to chat!

What types of furniture do you offer?

When it comes to our furniture, we’re all about quality. We handpick pieces that are both branded and non-branded, but the common thread is that they’re all made of solid, real wood and in top-notch condition. Manufactured wood? Not on our watch. We have a soft spot for vintage-style furniture, but we’re also fans of Victorian and modern designs. Basically, if it’s a stylish piece, we’re all over it.

Is My Little Shop Furniture related to Barn Walls?

Oh, Barn Walls? That’s our other pride and joy! My husband and I started Barn Walls as an internal brand, but it’s grown so much that we decided to let it spread its wings and become its own company. My husband takes the reins over there, and it’s just across the street from My Little Shop Furniture. At Barn Walls, we craft new furniture like coffee tables, nightstands, console tables, and more. But our real showstopper are our original and authentic headboards. Want to see for yourself? Here’s the link to the Barn Walls website: https://barn-walls.com/. Go ahead, take a peek!
